Veteran AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi will not have the opportunity to become Europe's all-time leading goalscorer again in this season's Champions League group stage, after being left out of the Rossoneri's 25-man squad.
With 70 goals in 115 games, Inzaghi is just two strikes behind Raul's record haul of 72 but will not be able to usurp the Real Madrid legend this year.
And at 38 years old, it would appear that time is running out for Inzaghi to reclaim the crown that Raul stole from him last season when scoring five goals for Schalke in the Champions League.
The former Italy international returned from injury in May after missing half of the 2010-11 season through injury, but Massimiliano Allegri is not fully convinced about his fitness.
And with the likes of Alexandre Pato, Robinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and new signing Antonio Nocerino at Allegri's disposal, Inzaghi will be playing no part for Milan in a group containing Barcelona, BATE Borisov and Viktoria Plzen.
"I hope that Filippo will in good condition in January to be included in the list then,'' Allegri said. "I spoke to him and he was disappointed but it's understandable.''
Injured midfielder Mathieu Flamini was also excluded as he continues his rehabilitation from major knee surgery.
